Defensive lineman Patrick Clegg led a goal-line stand that ultimately propelled the Red Devils (5-1, 3-0 West Suburban Silver) to claim Old Oaken bucket with a 34-6 victory over Downers Grove North on Oct. 3 in Downers Grove.
Leading 6-0 in the second half, the Trojans (3-3, 2-1) were on the Hinsdale Central 5-yard line, but the defense held on three straight plays.
On the very next play, quarterback John Whitelaw hit Mic Culligan for 95-yard touchdown pass that triggered Hinsdale Central's victory.
"You live for those types of moments, where you have the opportunity to show how competitive you are," Clegg said. "It was a lot of fun out there, and from there we took the momentum right away.
"With a tradition of the bucket, it was a great time to be on the field and have the opportunity to make a great play."
