No. 15 Hinsdale Central escapes with victory against Hinsdale South

Hinsdale Central senior quarterback Brian Owens didn't want to be remembered for losing to Hinsdale South.

Entering Saturday's game, the Red Devils had won the last 10 meetings between the schools, the last five by an average of 34.8 points.

The No. 15 Red Devils extended their series winning streak to 11 Saturday with a 34-27 victory.

Hinsdale Central (5-1) opened the second half with 21 unanswered points to erase a 21-13 halftime deficit. Owens spearheaded the comeback with a 70-yard touchdown pass to John Claussen late in the third quarter for a 27-21 lead.

"They got a good team this year, a bunch of good athletes, and their quarterback is really good," Owens said of Hinsdale South. "We're happy with the win, but obviously not the game. It was really sloppy, way too many penalties."
