With offense at full speed, Hinsdale Central triumphs over Hinsdale South

The Doings Cup, awarded annually to the winner of the Hinsdale Central-Hinsdale South rivalry game, has taken up permanent residence in Central’s trophy case in recent years.

Hinsdale Central cruised to its ninth straight victory with a 48-13 win Friday night to keep control of the traveling trophy, which was donated by a local newspaper in 1983. That streak is the longest in the series’ history, which the Red Devils lead 16-12.

“We like having (the cup), and we’re not about to give it up anytime soon,” Hinsdale Central coach Mike DiMatteo said. “It’s a symbol of a really cool rivalry. It’s always a big game because they’re neighborhood kids and they all know each other.”

DiMatteo took over as coach in 2006 and has had the Hornets’ number since he arrived. His teams have outscored Hinsdale Central 221-44 in five meetings.
