Hinsdale South comes up empty in Cup chase

FOOTBALL- Hinsdale Central senior quarterback Alex Hodakowski made one of his few appearances last season at Hinsdale South.

The backup for three-year starter and record-setting John Whitelaw, Hodakowski threw a 7-yard touchdown to Tom Garvin for the game's final score in the Red Devils' 48-7 victory.

"It's always good for the juniors to get some experience so when the seniors graduate, they know what a (varsity) game atmosphere is," Hodakowski said.

By the final moments Friday against Hinsdale South at Dickinson Field in the annual battle for The Doings Cup traveling trophy, Hodakowski was on the sidelines. Now the starting quarterback, Hodakowski saw backup Dan Callahan score the final touchdown on a 6-yard run to finish off the Red Devils' 48-13 victory and their ninth consecutive triumph over their District 86 rivals.
