Even as major Division I colleges choose to stay away, John Whitelaw continues to shred opposing defenses.
His latest victim was Hinsdale South, which watched as the senior quarterback tossed three touchddown passes to go along with a pair of rushing scores as Hinsdale Central knocked off the Hornets 48-7 Friday night in Darien.
Whitelaw kicked off the fireworks with a 28-yard run TD run toward the end of the first quarter and then added an 18-yard scamper to make the score 14-0. The QB then connected with John Lyons for a 56-yard touchdown reception with 5:30 remaining in the second quarter before Jake Knowles scored from one-yard out to increase the margin to 28-0 at half.
Hinsdale South scored its lone touchdown of the game with 4:58 left in the third on a 25-yard pass from Kevin Miller to Ryan Johnson.
But the Red Devils answered with a 13-yard TD pass from Whitelaw to Tom Garvin to leave the score at 34-7 before Whitelaw and Alex Kirk hooked up on a 63-yard strike.
Hinsdale Central rounded out the scoring with 2:20 left on a six-yard pass from Alex Hodakowski to Garvin.
Whitelaw finished 15-for-24 for 333 yards while Lyons hauled in four passes for 146 yards. Kirk had his fifth-straight 100-yard game, catching six balls for 127 yards.
Miller topped the Hornets with 62 rushing yards on 15 attempts while completing 6-of-14 passes for 73 yards.
