Tenerelli glad to be back on field

FOOTBALL - Hinsdale Central senior defensive lineman Mike Tenerelli was thankful to even participate in Friday's annual Doings Cup game at Hinsdale South.

In 2008, Tenerelli recovered from an offseason stress fracture in his back to play five games but missed the meeting with the Hornets. That season, and possibly even this one, ended after he took a helmet to his back against Oak Park-River Forest.

"I ended up breaking the other side (of my back). At that point, that's when I knew (I was done). It was hard to walk," Tenerelli said.

"That was it for six months. I had to wear that big back brace. Obviously, it's been awesome (to play) because I was told I was probably not going to play football this season."

Tenerelli not only has returned, he's a starter. And being part of a strong defensive effort ...
