Red Devils don't miss a beat with backup Connor Bauer at QB

DARIEN – Hinsdale Central quarterback Connor Bauer’s first pass Friday was intercepted and his team’s first 11 plays netted a paltry 27 yards.

Not to worry.

Bauer, a senior who took over from injured starter Matt Rush three weeks ago, fired a 56-yard touchdown pass to tight end Matt Bjorson late in the first quarter that ignited the Red Devils in a 42-7 rout of District 86 rival Hinsdale South.

Bauer finished 8-for-19 for 192 yards and three touchdowns, all to Bjorson, while running back Luke Skokna added 141 rushing and three touchdowns for Hinsdale Central (7-2), which allowed only 109 yards.

“We were just trying to persevere and use what we’ve been doing all season, pounding it down with the run game with Luke, then looking for that big play with Matt,” Bauer said. “He’s one of our best playmakers, so if we can ...
