Hinsdale Central linebacker Nick Franko made two huge plays against Hinsdale South on Friday night that were weeks in the making.
It was no coincidence that Franko was in a position to block a punt, and later to recover a fumble. His game-changing plays were the result of meticulous preparation.
“He works his butt off. He is one of those kids that you want to see succeed,” Red Devils coach Brian Griffin said. “Because every day, in and out, he is working harder than everybody and bringing people along with him.
“He is a true team player. You love when a kid like that is in the right spot and makes the plays at the right time.”
Franko’s timely plays helped the Red Devils claim a 27-7 victory in Darien, allowing them to retain The Doings Cup. Hinsdale Central has possessed the trophy for 18 straight years.
