Hinsdale Central grad Brian Allen drafted by Los Angeles Rams

Michigan State extended its streak of having at least one player selected in the NFL draft to 78 years when Brian Allen was selected by the Los Angeles Rams early in the fourth round Saturday.

Allen, a Hinsdale Central graduate, started all 13 Spartans games at center in 2017 and earned second-team All-Big Ten honors for the third straight season. He closed out his career by starting 28 consecutive games on the offensive line.

He made 38 starts and played in 51 games during his four-year career. He made 17 starts at center, 16 at left guard and five at right guard.

Allen was the 111th overall selection in the draft.

Only Michigan and USC have longer streaks, both extended to 80 years during the first two days of the draft.

Allen, a Hinsdale native, could end up being the only Michigan State player to go, but that's not necessarily terrible news. The Spartans had one of the most inexperienced teams in the country last season and still went 10-3.
