Thousands of senior high school student-athletes across the nation signed national letters of intent Wednesday and all of them hope they found the right fit.
In Division I football, Lincoln-Way East quarterback Blake Winkler set the school record for passing yardage (4,298) and passing touchdowns (51) but because he was 6-foot tall and 180 pounds, he wasn’t sought out by the big schools. But he was able to land at Illinois State University and he has no animosity about the recruiting process. He thinks he found that fit.

The next time football teams like Wheaton Warrenville South, Montini or Lemont make it to the state championship game, Champaign may not be the destination.
Last week, the IHSA officially began accepting bids for new sites to host the football state finals for five seasons (2013, ’15, ’17, ’19, ’21).
The University of Illinois has hosted the games at Memorial Stadium in Champaign since 1999, but a change in the Big Ten college football schedule has prompted the IHSA to find a host for its title games in odd years beginning in 2013.
