Hinsdale Central 42, Oak Park 22
Hinsdale Central pounds Oak Park

Five starts into his high school football career, Hinsdale Central
sophomore quarterback John Whitelaw is the first to admit he has
quite a bit more to learn.
But judging from his performance in Saturday afternoon's 42-22
pounding of Oak Park, it appears his education is nearly complete.
Whitelaw rushed 20 times for 221 yards and three touchdowns and
passed for two more in a breakout performance to lift the Red Devils
to their fourth straight victory and a place atop the West Suburban
Silver Conference standings.
"We saw that last night York beat Lyons, so we're at the top of the
conference," said Whitelaw, who completed 10 of 17 passes for 136
yards and an interception. "That means we need to step it up to stay
on top.
"I've learned a lot in the past four weeks. I'm starting to feel
confident and finally feeling like I'm caught up. Everything seems
to be clicking now."
Never more so than in the second half. Hinsdale led 7-3 at
intermission before the Red Devils exploded for 35 points. Oak Park
stayed close, trailing 14-10 with 8:33 left in the third before Jon
Duffy's interception of a Clarke Cuthbert pass turned the tide for
the Devils.
The interception, at the Oak Park 27, set up a four-play drive that
resulted in a fourth-down touchdown completion between Whitelaw and
Davis Kalsbeek with 4:21 remaining. Whitelaw added a 13-yard strike
to Mac Lagor early in the fourth to stake Hinsdale to a 28-10 lead.
Cuthbert finished the day 17-for-28 for 180 yards with three TDs and
the interception.
