Hinsdale Central Pigskin Preview
November 6, 2008
Bolingbrook (10-0) at Hinsdale Central (8-2)
KICKOFF: 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7, at Dickinson Field, 55th and Madison
streets, Hinsdale
LAST WEEK: Hinsdale Central 46, Downers South 12; Bolingbrook 62,
Curie 13
OUTLOOK: Hinsdale Central, which is seeded ninth in its Class 8A
playoff quadrant, will try to avoid losing at home in the second
round of the playoffs for the third straight year, but it won't be
easy.
Top seed Bolingbrook, which beat Downers South 21-20 in its season
opener, is appearing in its 17th straight postseason. Despite
returning just three starters from last year's team that finished
8-3, the Raiders captured their second straight Southwest Suburban
Conference Blue Division championship and had 10 players selected to
the all-conference team.
Running back John Seigler (5-foot-8, 175), quarterback Brad Geever
(6-3, 195), wide receiver Alfonzo Sylvester (5-11, 180) and
offensive linemen Robert Fife (5-11, 230) and Jeff Lindsey (6-2,
287) were picked on offense, while linebacker Marcus Lee (6-1, 210),
defensive end Bryan Mesik (5-9, 195), defensive backs Brandon
Westphal (6-1, 195) and Alex McNulty (5-10, 180) and tackle
Roosevelt Holliday (6-3, 303) were chosen on defense, with Holliday
being named the conference's defensive Most Valuable Player.
Bolingbrook's defense forced 34 turnovers during the regular season
and is allowing just 9.4 points per game.
Jamel Martin (6-0, 190) is another explosive running back. He missed
time with an injury, but returned and had 100 rushing yards and two
TDs against Curie. Receiver Chris Williams (6-0, 180) also is a
dangerous kick returner.
Hinsdale Central running back Rich Zajeski (536 rushing yards, 284
receiving yards, 10 TDs) is expected to return to the lineup after
suffering a high ankle sprain injury Oct. 11.
QUOTABLE: "They have things rolling over there," Hinsdale Central
coach Mike DiMatteo said. "They have to come to our place, and if we
play our game, it should be a really good football game."
