Devils sport Mohawks as sign of unity
November 6, 2008
Hinsdale Central senior Pat Clegg had no qualms about following
through on the idea of the football team sporting Mohawks for the
playoffs as a sign of team unity.
He just thought it would be difficult to get certain players to go
through with the haircut.
"I was real surprised Whitelaw got one," Clegg said of junior
quarterback John Whitelaw. "The whole team hasn't gotten one yet,
but we're going to work on that for the next game. Originally, it
started with the defense. We decided to try something different,
we're not shaving and tried the Mohawks. It was just a great team
moment."
The players ran the idea past Hinsdale Central coach Mike DiMatteo
before shedding the hair and got his approval.
"It was something they wanted to do, and as long as they do it as a
team, I really don't care," DiMatteo said. "That's something they
felt strongly about and that's fine with me. If it gets us a win,
they can go bald for all I care."
