Hinsdale Central Pigskin Preview
October 16, 2008
HINSDALE CENTRAL (6-1) AT PROVISO WEST (2-5)
KICKOFF: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Proviso Stadium, Wolf Road
and Harrison Street, Hillside
LAST YEAR: Hinsdale Central 38, Proviso West 0
OUTLOOK: The Red Devils need a victory to remain tied for first in
the West Suburban Conference Silver Division with Glenbard West
(7-0, 4-0 in Silver) and set up the winner-take-all showdown Friday,
Oct. 24, in Hinsdale. The Hilltoppers play host to Lyons Township
(3-4, 2-2) Saturday, Oct. 18.
Proviso West started 2-0 with victories over Stagg and Hinsdale
South, currently a combined 4-10, but has since lost five straight
to Silver foes with just 54 points scored. Saturday's loss was maybe
the hardest -- 14-7 at Oak Park after scoring on an 8-yard TD pass
from quarterback Teddy Sloan to Stephan Lockhart with 2 minutes, 3
seconds left, recovering the onside kick but then losing a fumble
when the snap was made while Sloan was looking at the sidelines to
check the play.
The Panthers have big-play capabilities with junior wide receiver
Kyle Prater (6-foot-3, 185 pounds), who has emerged as a Division I
prospect after an impressive summer. Sloan's TD passes this season
have included ones covering 53, 75, 79, 48, 26, 66 and 23 yards, but
the Panthers have been intercepted eight times the past two games.
Senior defensive end/linebacker Brian Rodgers (6-0, 184) was
all-conference and team MVP in 2007.

of 96 yards from quarterback Brett Morse to Scott Hrubes in 1994
playoff victory over Lyons Township.
