• LAST YEAR: Hinsdale Central 21, Downers North 6
• OUTLOOK: This West Suburban Conference Silver Division game is the
battle of the Old Oaken Bucket, a rivalry dating back to 1935 that
Hinsdale Central leads 38-32-3.
Downers North, with only three starters over 200 pounds, has won its
last two games, upsetting York 21-10 and beating Proviso West 21-7
Friday after leading 7-6 at halftime. The Trojans have lost to
Prospect 48-14) and Downers Grove South (21-0).
Jermal Jones is the Trojans' leading rusher with 440 yards on 71
carries with three touchdowns, including a 35-yard TD against
Proviso West.
Running back/free safety Joe Tokarski (399 yards, 66 carries, 1 TD)
and middle linebacker Daniel Sheppard (6-foot, 173 pounds), who
added quarterback duties this season, are three-year starters.
Sheppard has gained 320 yards on 92 carries with four TDs in the
Trojans' option offense and has completed 15 of 45 passes for 232
yards with six interceptions and one TD.
The Trojans' strength on defense is the secondary, where Marco Diaz
(5 interceptions) and three-sport athlete Joe Claver are among three
returning starters. Ryan Mussatto has three sacks and seven tackles
for a loss.
