Near west (region)
1. HINSDALE CENTRAL (7-4): Junior QB John Whitelaw oversees a potent offense that includes RBs Rich Zajeski (below) and Eric Alexander and WRs Davis Kalsbeek, Mick Culligan and Alex Kirk. The Red Devils defense will rely on linemen Pat Clegg, Allan Cameron, LB Brendan Sullivan and lockdown CB Garret Kawa.
2. DOWNERS GROVE SOUTH (9-1): Junior QB Chandler Whitmer ignites an explosive attack with TB Scottie Williams, WRs Zach Tomanovich and Wes Manzer, TE Greg Fox and OL Chris Wild and Mick Muench. LB Seth Carson and DL Matt Lunt lead the defense.
3. FENWICK (5-6): Jon Osterhaut, Nate Welch, Steve Sholtz and Emilio Alcarez will clear the way for RB Greg Killingsworth. The Friars' defense features DE Jack Dittmer, one of the top juniors in the state, along with DT Robert Fulton and LB Austin Brown.
4. DRISCOLL (14-0): Quest for unprecedented eighth straight title begins with nine returning starters from last year's 4A champion. QB Steve Schwabe will look for WRs Austin Baker, Grant White and Joey Calabrese while the defense is anchored by LB Frank Barcal and DE Trace Jenkins.
5. NAZARETH (8-4): After guiding Driscoll to four titles, coach Tim Racki has built another power, this time in LaGrange Park. The Roadrunners return 10 starters on defense and 16 overall--boasting a game-breaking junior at RB in LaSteven McKinney (1,431 yards, 22 TDs). LB Mike Williams could develop into a D-I prospect.
