Forever Our Coach

Just over a year ago, an integral member of the Hinsdale Central family lost his battle with cancer. His name was Bill Huskisson. He was a 1975 graduate of Hinsdale Central and spent over two decades here as a teacher and coach. His passion for Central could be heard every day when anyone asked him how things were going...his standard response was, "It's great to be alive and a Red Devil!"

Bill accomplished some outstanding things in his life. As a student at Hinsdale Central, Bill was a two-time All-West Suburban Conference and All-Area football player, a letter winner on the track team, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and a graduate of the Class of 1975.

After graduation, Bill attended Western Illinois University where he was a four-year (1975-1979) letter winner for the Leatherneck football team (earning All-Conference and All-American honors as a defensive tackle) and continued his involvement with Campus Crusade. Three years ago, Bill was inducted into the Western Illinois Hall of Fame.

In 1981, Bill earned the Defensive MVP Award for the Chicago Fire Football team, was a captain on the team, and earned an All-Pro nose tackle honor in the American Football Association. Bill spent the following year on the injured reserve roster of the Chicago Bears after health problems at the end of training camp. Bill was also a member of the Chicago Blitz in the USFL.

For the next 26 years, Bill was a teacher and coach at Hinsdale Central, serving as the head wrestling coach from 1993-2002, assistant football coach, throwing coach on the track team, and strength coach in the weight room. In 1997 he received the Presidential Distinguished Teacher Award.

Bill was also a coach and Board member of the Hinsdale Falcon Youth Football Program. He started the Hinsdale Youth Center, soliciting donations and coordinating the rehabilitation of an abandoned building along the tracks just east of the Hinsdale Police station. Bill and his family were members of Christ Church of Oak Brook.

Bill is survived by his wife Lynda (a 1982 HC grad), his daughter Abby, his twin sons Brock and Cole, his father Edward, his five brothers (also HC grads) and their families: Jim (1976), Peter (1976), Robert (1980), and John (1982).

A memorial rock has been placed on the football practice field as a tribute to Bill and the countless hours he spent there as a player and coach. The inscription on the marker is shown at the top of this page. In lieu of donations to fund the memorial, we are asking that you consider making donations to the Huskisson kids' education fund.
